Vegan Chocolate Tart

The Cacao plant has more Magnesium than any other. This mineral aids digestive regulation, neurological disorders and cardiovascular systems. Dark chocolate and Cacao are great brain foods that improve memory and protect the brain nerve cells from further damage after a stroke. Cacao antioxidants clean plaque from our arteries. But Cacao and chocolate are toxic to many animals. Symptoms of dog chocolate poisoning include vomiting (which may include blood), diarrhoea, restlessness and hyperactivity, rapid breathing, muscle tension, incoordination, increased heart rate and seizures.

Chocolate Tart Vegan Uncooked

Make tart case at least 4 hours before filling.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups whole almonds with skins intact, or hazelnuts

  • 1 teaspoon fine Himalayan pink salt

  • 2 cups mixed dried fruits, dates, apricots

  • 1 cup fruit juice

  • 2 tablespoons coconut creme

  • 1 dessertspoon brandy/ liqueur of choice or 1 teaspoon essence of choice

Method:

  1. Soak nuts, fruit, juice and liqueur overnight;

  2. transfer to food processor with coconut creme;

  3. pulse till smooth;

  4. Press mix into a 23cm, lightly oiled tart pan with removable sides. Cover with plastic wrap and put in the freezer to harden.

Vegan Chocolate Ganache

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups mashed avocados

  • 3/4 cup extra virgin coconut oil

  • 1 dessert spoon vanilla paste

  • 1 cup cacao powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • scant ½ teaspoon chilli powder (optional)

  • 3/4 cup icing sugar

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons honey

  • 2 tablespoons fruit juice or your favourite orange liqueur, coffee liqueur.

Method:

  1. Blend everything together until smooth, ladle into the frozen tart case;

  2. Set in the refrigerator for 1 day as it takes that time to firm up for slicing;

  3. Dust with cacao powder;

  4. Serve by itself or with Oranges in Caramel Sauce. (see recipe)

  5. Chocolate Ganache tart freezes well.
